Welcome to my website. Most of my art on this site is abstract/non-representational in nature. Please contact me for prices on artwork or commissions.
Artist Statement
Art is about life. My art is about destination, both about traveling and life. My art can be about a simple destination of places I’ve been, places I’ve studied, or places where I have personal friends. Other times, my art is made to evoke a more serious topic about the destination of life. The family structure is important to me, and anyone can tell by looking at the news that the family is constantly under attack and in a state of degradation.
Most of my non-representational works signify destination of place. My representational works take from my own experiences of growing up in a broken home, where my parents were separated but never divorced. The experiences that I had, being sent to live with different parents and relatives, and the atrocities that I’ve heard or read about lead me to make art that expresses the effects of this familial breakdown.
Most of my art uses oil paint on either canvas or panel. I use premixed pigments as well as raw pigment pressed into wet paint which gives cosmic look and stippled texture to my paintings. Within many of my paintings, I have started them with pastel and fixed them with linseed oil. In my drawings, I use mostly pastel and occasionally charcoal and pencil.
My art has meaning because it is about my personal experiences. I don’t believe that a person can truly make believable art if it doesn’t come from deep within that person. My experiences have dictated what kind of person I am, how I choose to live my life or change myself for the better, as well as wanting to give my understanding of life in the form of art.
Having studied under artists like Robert Jessup, Matt Bourbon, and Vincent Falsetta has given me a strong foundation in my paintings and has helped me to take my influences of David Salle, Eric Fischl, and Julie Mehretu, into the next realm by moving past their influence.
